Therapeutic Support Services

We offer comprehensive access to qualified therapeutic and family support staff for all students and their families. Our team comprises experienced Psychological Therapists, Child and Adolescent Counsellors, Art Psychotherapists, and Assistant Psychologists. Additionally, our well-established Family Support Team includes a Duty Designated Safeguarding Lead and Family Support Workers.

We are also pleased to introduce Ella, our trained Wellbeing Dog, who plays a key role in helping to regulate children during break times and can attend therapy sessions when needed. As a team of qualified professionals, we are equipped to deliver a wide range of interventions across several levels, including:

 • Direct therapeutic work with young people
• Trauma-informed Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for all staff
• Systemic interventions for families
• Professional advice and consultation
• Collaborative work with external agencies
• Supervision and support for interventions across the Trust

Our position allows us to play a central role in promoting well-being and mental health. We are committed to fostering an environment that supports well-being and resilience, with therapeutic provision being an integral part of this approach.

A variety of interventions are available, tailored to meet the specific needs of families, schools, and individuals. Successful school-based interventions often centre on positive behaviour reinforcement and group activities, blending instructional strategies with behavioural management techniques, such as teaching essential social and emotional skills like conflict resolution and problem-solving.

We provide psychological therapies, both individual and group-based (e.g. CBT, psychotherapies), which are evidence-based interventions for addressing mental health or behavioural challenges. These therapies aim to reduce aggressive behaviour, promote pro-social interactions, and ensure that students feel supported in a safe space with a trusted, trained therapist should they choose to engage.

Each Centre within the Trust is equipped with welcoming and dedicated therapeutic rooms, available for booking, along with a fully-equipped therapeutic suite at Stephenson Academy on the Crosslands site, offering comfortable spaces for group work, art therapies, family meetings, and counselling sessions.

We place a strong emphasis on staff training and professional development to ensure that our team’s knowledge and skills remain current. All clinicians are fully registered with the relevant professional bodies.

If you or your child require support, or if you would like to discuss any aspects of support available to your family, please contact Kirsten McVey, Therapeutic Lead, by calling the Academy directly.
